City Council Member Blasts Baton Rouge City Government/Mayor Over Land Grab

Baton Rouge Metro Council member Ryan Heck is continuing to rail against the city-parish’s efforts to bring the Mall of Louisiana into the city limits of Baton Rouge. In a statement posted on his Facebook page late Thursday night, he accused the city of living beyond its means and feeding itself by dipping into the “cookie jar” of the unincorporated areas.

Heck told | The Times-Picayune on Thursday that city-parish officials are in talks with the mall and with Baton Rouge General Medical Center to annex their properties into the city. That move would have a major impact on the proposed incorporation of the city of St. George. The mall, currently in the unincorporated area proposed to be the new city, is a major tax revenue generator, so both the city and St. George want it in their boundaries.
